Benefits of Incorporating a Tablet based Smart ICT Lab into the School Curriculum

Smart ICT LAB, a digital library with tablets in schools of India

Smart ICT Labs are designed to eliminate complex computing equipment. It is an easy-to-use solution that aligns with the natural psychology of students and teachers, like smartphones. Because integrating familiar technology in schools enables easy adoption, resulting in regular usage.

We even experience this every time we implement iPrep Digital Library, which is easy to use and maintain Smart ICT Lab on Tablets with a Charging Rack, Preloaded Content & Integrated Reporting for Personalized Learning in Schools.

What happens when we first introduce a digital library, Tablet based Smart ICT Lab in Schools?

Teachers and students in most government schools have limited exposure to technology. Therefore, when we first introduce them to a tablet-based smart ICT lab, they get concerned that it is their replacement and, if not, whether it would fit into their regular teaching.

The answer is that digital learning solutions do not replace in-person teaching and learning. Being a part of the education ecosystem for years, we know the benefits of face-to-face interactions between students and teachers. Therefore, we say digital learning solutions complement traditional teaching methods and enhance the overall learning experience. One example of it is tablet based smart ICT Lab designed as per the revision of the ICT Lab Scheme by the Ministry of Education in 2019.

What is this revision about?

In 2018, the Ministry of Education (MoE) reviewed the usage, setup, and historical learning outcomes from the ICT & RMSA scheme, where computer labs were set up at thousands of government schools across states over the last decade. From the review, MoE noted that computers in govt schools were not in use because of complex hardware, difficult maintenance, electricity dependence, and many other infrastructural and psychological challenges. In revision, they added tablets/laptops/Chromebooks for ICT Lab to cope with and break all the barriers to learning.

Benefits of ICT Lab Scheme Revision

  1. Tablets-based smart ICT labs are easy to set up, manage and use

Tablets-based smart ICT labs effectively address infrastructural challenges that schools face in implementing technology in the classroom. Smart ICT lab, which is a digital library with tablets, can easily be moved from one classroom to another because they are portable. This makes them a flexible solution for schools that do not have dedicated computer labs or sufficient space for traditional computers. Additionally, tablet-based smart ICT labs can be easily set up, eliminating the need for complex installations or specialized technical expertise. Furthermore, tablets are easy to manage and use and have user-friendly features.

  1. Familiarity of teachers and students with tablet based learning solutions

Familiarity with tablet-based learning solutions is a significant factor in the success of using digital learning content in the classroom. Teachers and students who are familiar with mobile technology can effectively incorporate the use of tablet based learning in class. With a good understanding of how to use learning devices, teachers and students take full advantage of their educational potential and use tablets for digital learning.

  1. Tablets make learning engaging and enjoyable for our students

With tablets, students get access to various digital learning content, including animated video lessons, digital books, audiobooks, and interactive practice with instant feedback, making learning easy, interactive, and engaging. In addition, tablets allow students to access information at the click of a button, making revision simpler and accessing content quickly, resulting in improved learning interests.
