At a glance
The Ministry of Education’s national data system for school education, and one of the largest management information systems on school education. Each year it gathers data on schools, teachers, and students, from pre-primary to higher secondary level.
Schools enter their own data online, and it is then checked at block, district, and State levels. Since 2022-23, UDISE+ has also recorded data for each student individually, to help governments plan from evidence and identify the students that schemes are meant to reach.
It grew out of the Unified District Information System for Education (UDISE), which brought separate data systems for elementary and secondary education together.
Scope
What UDISE+ collects and how it is used
UDISE+ records data on schools, teachers, and students, and the Government uses it to plan, target schemes, and measure progress.
Schools and facilities
Records each school’s facilities, including electricity, drinking water, toilets, computers, internet, libraries, playgrounds, and ramps.
Teachers
Records the teachers in each school, the basis for national figures such as the pupil-teacher ratio and the share of women teachers.
Students
Since 2022-23, records each student individually, across more than 60 fields, to track enrolment, transition, retention, and dropout.
Evidence for planning
Gives the Centre, States, and Union Territories the data to plan and monitor school education, including progress under the National Education Policy 2020.
Reaching scheme beneficiaries
Helps identify the students that schemes such as Samagra Shiksha and PM POSHAN are meant to reach, and removes duplicate entries.
Measuring performance
Feeds the Performance Grading Index, which assesses States, Union Territories, and districts on school education.
