Smart Class in Assamese: Our Experience Setting Up and Training in Assam Schools
In 2016, we implemented smart class solutions in government schools located in different regions of Guwahati, Assam. What surprised us was the level of preparedness and commitment shown by these schools. Despite being in regions often assumed to have infrastructural challenges, the schools were exceptionally well maintained. Further, schools operated with full teacher strength, and the teachers’ communication and clarity of thought were truly inspiring. Their warm welcome and genuine excitement to explore digital classroom tools set the stage for a very meaningful implementation process.
Leveraged their Existing Infrastructure with Offline Smart Class Content
Because these schools already had Interactive Flat Panel (IFP) setups, we provided preloaded content on a pen drive, which is accessible fully offline via our LMS – iPrep. The content included lessons in both Assamese and English, carefully aligned with the Assam state board for 7th, 8th and 9th class. Teachers were familiar with using IFPs, and hence seeing ASSEB aligned digital content available at the click of a button, even without internet, was extremely encouraging for them. They appreciated how simple it was to navigate and integrate into their classroom teaching.
Although the content on smart class in Assamese was curated, it was highly appreciated by all because it was teacher centric. Teachers enthusiastically viewed videos of their respective subjects, and one of them even recognised herself delivering a lesson in one of the videos. That moment was powerful – it reflected how their own contribution to education had reached beyond their classroom through digital content. This not only built trust but also strengthened their belief in the impact technology could make.
The training session was extremely interactive, with absolutely no hesitation from the teachers. They asked questions, shared ideas, and openly expressed their excitement about using the content smart class in Assamese. The biggest takeaway was their happiness in experiencing how digital lessons could run completely offline while being fully relevant to their curriculum. For anyone looking to implement smart classes in Assam, in Guwahati and nearby regions, our experience shows that when technology meets language comfort and teacher readiness, impactful adoption is not just possible – it’s natural.
