Bringing Smart Classes in Odisha Board Schools

Gopalpur, a small town in Ganjam district of Odisha, carries the quiet rhythm of coastal life – simple, grounded, and deeply connected to its people. Far from the rush of big cities, schools here function with limited access to resources but unlimited commitment from teachers. Reaching schools here through the social sector education initiative itself felt like a journey into determination – long roads, remote surroundings, and basic infrastructure. Yet what stood out immediately was not the distance from the city, but the closeness of the school community to the idea of learning. There was curiosity in the classrooms and readiness in the staff to try something new for their students.
The project focused on enabling 5 smart classes in Odisha in one school of Gopalpur
The school was equipped with five Samsung 55-inch Tizen Smart Class TVs along with five 256 GB pen drives, each preloaded with digital content for Classes 1 to 8. The content was aligned with the Odisha Board curriculum and made available in both English and Odia mediums, ensuring accessibility for every child. Despite challenging ground conditions and the school being far from the city, the installation process moved smoothly, driven by strong coordination and shared purpose.
One of the most encouraging discoveries was that the school already had two Panasonic touch panels
Teachers were actively using them to teach through online platforms such as YouTube and Google. This showed that the school was not new to technology, they were already experimenting, learning, and evolving. The Smart Class setup did not feel like an interruption, but a natural next step in their digital journey. Teachers were quick to connect with the system, exploring how the new content could make lessons more visual, interactive, and engaging for students.
The training experience reflected the spirit of the school

Teachers were highly cooperative, curious, and eager to learn. Students responded with excitement, actively engaging with the Smart Class content during sessions. With the strong support of teachers, both installation and training were completed within the planned timeline.
What began as a project in a remote part of Odisha became a powerful reminder, when the right tools meet willing teachers and eager students, smart classes in schools can truly transform learning, no matter how far the school is from the city.
Looking forward to seeing how the Smart Class setup is used and to sharing learning insights from the ground.
