Smart Classroom in Assam Driving Digital Learning in Kamrup Government Schools

Group of Teachers on smart classroom training day in Assam government schools

Kamrup district in Assam is known for its cultural richness, geographic diversity, and a wide network of government schools serving both urban and semi-urban communities. As students and teachers gain more exposure to technology and hold rising aspirations, the district also needs more 21st-century learning environments. Classrooms are steadily moving beyond traditional chalk-and-talk methods toward digital, visual, and activity-based learning experiences. In this context, the Smart Classroom in Assam initiative is initiated by an Indian NGO. To roll out the initiative, the NGO collaborated with iDream Education to set up smart classes in four government schools of Assam, with the focus on strengthening the learning infrastructure in Kamrup.

About the Implementation of 4 Smart Classrooms in Kamrup, Assam

With the goal of strengthening school infrastructure through digital learning, four government schools in Kamrup district now feature smart classrooms. This setup strengthens school infrastructure through digital learning across the lower primary and middle school levels. This initiative makes classroom teaching more interactive, inclusive, and technology-enabled.

The participating schools include:

  • Boragog MES caters to students from Grades 6 to 8,
  • No. Dwigunpar LP School serves children from Kindergarten to Grade 5.
  • 1227 No. Sarikot LP School provides education for Grades 1 to 5.
  • Saraighat LP School supports students from Nursery to Grade 5.

Altogether, the four smart classrooms are benefiting 234 students and supporting 19 teachers, including 15 female and 4 male educators.

Each smart classroom is equipped with an LG 65-inch Interactive Flat Panel (IFP) preinstalled with a smart class LMS. The offline smart class digital content is aligned with the Assam State Board curriculum. The content is available in both English and Assamese mediums, enabling teachers to align/switch to digital content seamlessly during daily teaching.

With the infrastructure in place, the focus then moved to the next critical step — enabling teachers to confidently integrate these digital tools into their everyday classroom teaching practices.

Now Comes Smart Classroom Training Sessions in Kamrup

To ensure smart classroom infrastructure translates into real classroom adoption, our ground team conducted cluster-level, experiential training sessions. Teachers from all four participating schools joined these hands-on sessions. What makes this initiative especially meaningful is that these schools are located in a deeply rural district, nearly 30 kilometres from the airport. This highlights that quality digital education can reach even the most remote learning environments.

Teachers attended the training as scheduled and participated actively throughout the sessions. The Headmaster of Boragog ME School welcomed all participants, setting a positive and collaborative tone for the program.

During the training, teachers explored categorized video lessons, practice modules, and subject-wise digital resources aligned to their syllabus. The sessions encouraged open discussion on how teachers could use the content in real classroom scenarios. Teachers raised practical questions around lesson integration, usage methods, and classroom workflows. The hands-on practice enabled teachers to independently navigate the platform and experience how digital content seamlessly blends into their lesson plans.
