Smart Classroom in Sarai Tand, Gaya: Bringing Digital Learning to the Last Mile

Nearly 63 kilometres away from the district centre of Gaya in Bihar lies Sarai Tand – a village with limited direct transport connectivity, yet home to determined learners. Students from six surrounding villages travel daily by shared vehicles or on foot to attend the Government Higher Secondary School here. For many, this school is not just an institution, it is their only gateway to opportunity.

It is for these last-mile learners that meaningful digital interventions matter the most.

Recognising the school’s pivotal role in the region, an education-focused NGO partnered with iDream Education to introduce an Interactive Flat Panel–based Smart Classroom in the Government Higher Secondary School of Sarai Tand.

The objective was to create a dedicated, shared digital learning space where students could access curriculum-aligned animated content, strengthen conceptual understanding, and experience engaging classroom teaching despite geographical limitations.

In places where infrastructure gaps often define learning outcomes, this initiative aims to ensure that distance does not determine the quality of education a child receives.

What made this implementation especially meaningful was the school’s own initiative and ownership.

The school prepared a separate room exclusively for the Smart Classroom. This decision reflected a long-term commitment to digital learning rather than a one-time installation.

With support from the NGO partner, the school strengthened the interior setup further. The school arranged desks, prepared the walls, and ensured proper electrical fittings. The team organised the space deliberately so it felt structured and purposeful before installing the Interactive Flat Panel.

This sense of readiness and shared responsibility transformed the classroom into more than just a technology-enabled room. It became a dedicated learning environment designed to enhance focus, participation, and curiosity among students.

What did the School Received Through This Initiative?

The implementation included a 65-inch LG Interactive Flat Panel preinstalled with iPrep smart class LMS with preloaded Bihar State Board–aligned smart class content in Hindi medium for Classes 1 to 12.

The LMS and content library were designed specifically for rural and low-connectivity contexts such as Sarai Tand. So the device functions completely offline and ensures seamless classroom usage without any dependency on internet connectivity.

While the installation was carried out in a single dedicated classroom, its impact extended far beyond one section. The Smart Classroom is now accessible to 660 students and 14 teachers across grade levels, enabling shared and structured usage throughout the academic schedule.

The LMS also includes offline reporting capabilities, empowering teachers to track their Smart Class usage and engagement data directly from the device. In addition, our team monitors consolidated usage data through a centralised dashboard. This helps ensure sustained adoption, accountability, and ongoing academic improvement.

Teacher Onboarding, Training & Early Adoption

A key focus of the implementation was ensuring that teachers felt confident and comfortable using the Smart Classroom in Sarai Tand. Structured onboarding sessions introduced teachers to the Smart Class LMS step by step. Where the teachers explored content categories, subject-wise organisation, and practical integration into daily teaching.

The team conducted structured onboarding sessions for teachers. During these sessions, teachers explored the Smart Class LMS, its content categories, subject-wise organisation, and practical ways to integrate digital resources into daily teaching.

They explored how animated videos, practice modules, assessments, and chapter-wise explanations could strengthen daily classroom teaching. What stood out was their willingness to sit together, explore the platform hands-on, ask questions, and experiment with the content. The enthusiasm to adopt digital teaching practices was visible from the very beginning.

To ensure sustained usage, Smart Class engagement reports are regularly shared with both the school and the NGO partner. These reports enable school authorities to review usage trends, analyse engagement patterns across grades, and plan structured timetables for optimal utilisation.
