Implemented Smart Classes & PAL on Tablets in PM SHRI Schools of Himachal Pradesh

Himachal Pradesh is steadily strengthening its school education ecosystem by transforming selected institutions into future-ready learning spaces. Under the PM SHRI (Prime Minister Schools for Rising India) scheme, 180 schools across the state have been selected up to Phase 4 to serve as exemplar schools that demonstrate the vision and practice of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Modern infrastructure, smart classrooms, upgraded labs, and sustainable green features transform these schools into engaging, inclusive learning environments.

Along with government-led initiatives, organizations across the education ecosystem are also contributing to strengthening learning environments in schools. Many CSR partners are actively supporting the adoption of digital infrastructure, smart classrooms, and tablet-based learning to ensure that students benefit from high-quality, technology-enabled education.

In this direction, corporate collaborated with iDream Education to set up smart classroom solutions and Personalized Adaptive Learning (PAL) on tablets, bringing structured digital content and adaptive tools into 124 PM SHRI schools to make learning more engaging, accessible, and effective for every student.

Smart Classes and Tablet-based PAL implementation in 124 PM SHRI schools

Under this rollout, 248 smart classrooms and 2,976 tablets with a Personalized Adaptive Learning (PAL) solution have been set up. Smart classroom infrastructure supports effective teacher-led instruction. PAL tablets personalize learning, help teachers manage multilevel classrooms, and enable students to bridge learning gaps.

The smart class content is aligned with the Himachal Pradesh Board curriculum for Classes 1–12. The PAL tablets are loaded with NCERT-aligned content for Classes 1–12, enabling continuous, self-paced, and need-based learning for students.

Considering that the state is quite remote and located in hilly regions, the entire digital classroom ecosystem is deployed using an offline-first model. This ensures that both the PAL solution and smart classroom setup function smoothly without dependence on internet connectivity.

After implementation, the next key step was teacher training and capacity building – PM SHRI Schools, Himachal Pradesh

To ensure the implemented solution translated into real classroom impact, we rolled out:

  • A structured, cluster-wise teacher training program across PM SHRI schools in Himachal Pradesh
  • Training was conducted in 7 structured batches across 11 Himachal Pradesh districts, including remote and hilly regions. Each batch followed a two-day, hands-on format, enabling teachers to directly use smart classroom panels and PAL tablets rather than just observing demonstrations.
  • Maths and Science teachers formed a major part of the training sessions, given the conceptual nature of these subjects and the strong scope for visual and interactive explanation through digital tools.

The teacher training and capacity building sessions covered:

  • Use of interactive panels, LMS, and content for daily lesson delivery
  • Planning structured lessons using board-aligned digital content
  • Empowering teachers to use insights of PAL for tracking students’ learning gaps and progress
  • Integrating tablet-based adaptive learning into regular classroom schedules

The overall approach focused on teacher training and capacity building on practical usage, classroom relevance, and confidence-building. This ensures digital tools become a regular, meaningful part of everyday teaching.

What Does Early Smart Class Adoption and Digital Integration Highlight?

Over time, classrooms began showing clear early signs of structured digital integration across PM SHRI Schools in Himachal Pradesh.Following the rollout and training sessions:

  • Smart classroom infrastructure started becoming part of daily teaching practices rather than occasional usage. Teachers began actively using iPrep Digital Class, a smart classroom solution to support concept explanation, especially for better comprehension of complex topics in Mathematics and Science.
  • Because digital content aligns with the curriculum, teachers directly connect it to ongoing lessons instead of treating digital sessions as separate add-on activities. This is helping them maintain continuity in teaching while enriching classroom instruction with visual and interactive explanations.
  • The introduction of PAL tablets further enabled individualized student engagement. Students practice at their own pace, access level-appropriate exercises, and revisit concepts needing extra reinforcement. For teachers, this created better visibility into varied learning levels within the same classroom and supported more targeted academic support.

The best part of implementation?

The offline functionality of both the smart class solution and PAL platform is proving valuable in ensuring consistent and reliable usage across PM Shri Schools in Himachal Pradesh, regardless of internet connectivity conditions. Overall, the implementation of smart classrooms & PAL on tablets in PM SHRI Schools of Himachal Pradesh reflects a balanced approach – where infrastructure, adaptive learning tools, and teacher training strengthen everyday classroom effectiveness.
