Wish to learn more about CBSE Content, NCERT and other State board Content?

CBSE is a governing body while NCERT is a publishing body. CBSE is a National Level Board that conducts final exams for public and private schools. CBSE Syllabus is based on NCERT books, and CBSE directs its affiliated schools to follow the NCERT Syllabus.

The state boards of Karnataka, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh (AP), Maharashtra, Odisha, Gujarat, and West Bengal all follow their respective SCERT curricula up to varying grades, while incorporating NCERT Curriculum to align with National Educational Standards.

Similarities of other state boards with NCERT:

In these states, NCERT content & textbooks and guidelines are usually adopted from Grades 9 to 12, particularly in subjects like Science, Mathematics, and Social Sciences. This alignment is meant to ensure consistency for students appearing in national exams like NEET, JEE, and UPSC, which follow the NCERT syllabus.

Similar to NCERT Content, the focus on conceptual learning, skill development, and a standardized approach is similar across states, mirroring NCERT’s emphasis on holistic education.

Dissimilarities between NCERT and state boards:

SCERT curricula for lower grades (typically up to Grade 8) differ, with state-specific content that reflects local culture, language, and regional priorities.

Language of instruction and regional focus vary greatly; for instance, Tamil Nadu emphasizes Tamil in its curriculum, while West Bengal includes a strong emphasis on Bengali literature and history.

Thus, while higher grades tend to follow the NCERT syllabus for uniformity, state boards retain regional identity and context in their SCERT-driven curricula for younger students.
