The Impact Of Bilingual Learning Content

The beginning of Gurpreet’s Journey

Gurpreet’s journey from a remote village in the Daund district of Pune, Maharashtra, has been marked by determination and resilience. Hailing from a middle-class family, where her father is a farmworker, while her mother dedicated herself to homemaking. Gurpreet’s early education took place in the town of Malegaon, where she navigated the first eight years of her schooling. However, when the COVID-19 pandemic struck, their lives took a significant turn. Her father secured a job at the Daund MIDC, prompting the family’s migration from Malegaon to Daund.

The transition wasn’t easy, especially for Gurpreet

In Malegaon, she had been accustomed to learning in both Hindi and English mediums. But in Daund, the predominant medium of instruction was Marathi, which was foreign to her. Initially, she struggled to grasp concepts and communicate effectively in this new language. Determined not to fall behind, Gurpreet embarked on a journey of self-study. She by herself used to translate her learning materials from Marathi to English and worked tirelessly to catch up with her classmates.

Hope arrived for Gurpreet when the Shree Bhairvnath Madhyamik Vidyalaya introduced a digital education initiative in collaboration with the CIPLA Foundation. Students in classes 9th and 10th were provided with learning tablets preloaded with curriculum-aligned bilingual learning content. This means the content on iPrep is made available to students in both English and Marathi language medium. Gurpreet received her personalised tablet when she was in class 10th. She was elated to discover that the tablets catered to bilingual needs, acknowledging that digital initiatives weren’t limited to Marathi-speaking students.

Bilingual Learning Content on Tablet: Gurpreet’s Path to Knowledge

With her learning tablet, Gurpreet could seamlessly switch to English as a medium of learning. This made her learning experience personalised and joyful. She dove into her studies with renewed hope, especially focusing on subjects like math and science, where she had previously struggled. While her classmates enjoyed video lessons in Marathi. Gurpreet found joy in personalising her learning journey in the English Language helping her bridge the learning gaps.

Bilingualism in the classroom facilitates a Joyful Learning Environment

The availability of learning content in students’ preferred language nurtures a sense of cultural inclusivity and fosters a love for learning. By recognising and celebrating linguistic diversity, iDream Education paves the way for a more enriched and joyful educational experience for all students.
