Digital Libraries in Rajasthan Board Schools to Strengthen Government School Education

Teacher training on using the digital library, LMS, and e-library content setup in Rajasthan schools.

Across several remote parts of Rajasthan, government schools continue to serve village communities located far from urban centres. While classroom teaching remains consistent and committed, access to structured digital learning resources is often limited. In many such schools, teachers deliver lessons through traditional methods, with organized digital content yet to become part of everyday learning.

To support these rural schools, an education-focused NGO partnered with iDream Education to introduce Digital Libraries using tablet-based learning devices. Three government schools were identified in gram panchayats to receive the Digital Library setup. The implementation was designed to introduce structured digital access in classrooms through a tablet-based Digital Library model.

Implementing the Digital Library Across Three Schools of Rajasthan

The Digital Library initiative was rolled out across three government schools in Rajasthan to strengthen access to structured, digital curriculum resources. Each school received a dedicated set of tablets and supporting infrastructure to ensure smooth and regular classroom use.

The implementation covered the following schools:

  • Higher Secondary School, Samra Village, Kaithri Gram Panchayat – 25 tablets
  • Government Upper Primary School, Vikrampura Village, Ghari Chatola Gram Panchayat – 25 tablets
  • Bohre Babu Lal Sharma Government Senior Secondary School, Kaithri Village, Kaithri Gram Panchayat – 30 tablets

The initiative distributed 81 Lenovo tablets (9-inch, Android platform). Students received 80 tablets, while coordinators got 1 additional device for management. Each school received a secure storage and charging rack for tablets, with a total of three charging trolleys installed across the schools.

To ensure safe, durable, and personalized use of the devices, all tablets were provided with screen guards, book-style protective covers, and earphones. The Digital Library software comes pre-installed on every device. Each tablet also arrives preloaded with Rajasthan State Board–aligned content for Classes 1 to 8 in both Hindi and English medium. Each participating school serves approximately 100–200 students. The entire solution functions fully offline. This ensures uninterrupted access to learning resources.

Teacher Training Focused on Practical Classroom Use

Teachers and the gram panchayat at the training session on tablet-based Digital Library implementation in Rajasthan Board government schools.

Training was conducted at a central location, where 3–4 teachers from each of the three schools participated in a one-time hands-on session. Village representatives, including the Sarpanch, Nambardar, and Pradhan, were also present. For many participants, this was their first exposure to a structured tablet-based Digital Library with organised charging trolleys. The response from teachers and community representatives showed willingness to integrate digital learning into regular classroom practice.

One of the most encouraging aspects of the training sessions was the nature of the teachers’ queries.
These queries centered on content coverage, language flexibility, classroom usage planning, and device management. Through guided demonstrations and hands-on practice using the Digital Library in both Hindi and English medium, teachers built strong confidence. They gained skills in operating the tablets and effectively integrating digital learning sessions into their regular classroom teaching.

We are hopeful that this tablet-based Digital Library implementation in Rajasthan will further strengthen learning opportunities in rural government schools. We look forward to closely tracking usage and learning outcomes, and will continue to monitor progress and regularly share updates with project officials and administrators.
