Bringing Digital Learning to Underserved Classrooms in Karnataka

Every child deserves access to engaging, high-quality learning opportunities, regardless of where they live or the resources available in their school. In Karnataka, many schools and community learning centres serving children from economically disadvantaged backgrounds faced common challenges, including limited access to digital learning resources, inadequate technology infrastructure and a lack of interactive teaching tools. Teachers often relied primarily on traditional classroom methods, making it difficult to address diverse learning needs and sustain student engagement. Recognising these challenges, a non-profit organisation dedicated to empowering underserved communities through education and holistic development partnered with iDream Education to create more engaging and inclusive learning environments.

Together, the Foundation and iDream Education combined their strengths to implement a technology-enabled learning programme aligned with the Foundation’s mission of expanding educational opportunities for underserved communities. While the Foundation facilitated implementation across its partner schools and learning centres, iDream Education provided its Smart Classroom solution along with implementation support and teacher enablement.

The programme introduced iDream Education’s Smart Classroom solution, equipped with Karnataka-aligned digital content that works entirely offline. This ensured uninterrupted access to learning resources even in locations with unreliable internet connectivity. The solution included interactive animated videos, practice assessments and multilingual content designed to complement classroom teaching and help teachers explain complex concepts in engaging and accessible ways.

Implementation followed a structured rollout.

Smart Classroom systems were installed in participating schools and learning centres, followed by orientation sessions that familiarised teachers with the platform and its features. The offline functionality enabled schools to begin using the solution immediately without depending on continuous internet access, allowing digital learning to become a natural part of everyday classroom instruction.

Preparing teachers was a key focus throughout the implementation. Hands-on training sessions introduced educators to the digital content library, demonstrated how multimedia resources could be integrated into lesson plans and built confidence in using technology during regular classroom teaching. This practical approach enabled teachers to adopt the solution with ease while ensuring that digital resources complemented their existing teaching practices.

During implementation, classrooms saw more interactive lessons and greater student participation as teachers consistently incorporated videos, animations and assessments into their teaching. Digital content became a regular part of classroom instruction, helping teachers explain concepts in multiple ways while encouraging learners to participate more actively in lessons.

Going forward, the Foundation and iDream Education will continue supporting schools in strengthening digital classroom practices and encouraging sustained use of technology in everyday teaching. Together, the partnership aims to ensure that children from underserved communities continue to have access to engaging, equitable and high-quality learning experiences.
