A Comprehensive Guide on the Need to set up a Tab Lab for Personalized Learning in Schools

In the traditional school environment, personalized learning often takes a backseat.

Classrooms are designed to support a one-to-many teaching model, where a single teacher instructs a large group of students. This approach, while efficient, makes it challenging to cater to the individual needs and learning styles of each student. Teachers, despite their best intentions, are often stretched thin. They struggle to provide personalized attention to every student unless a specific question is raised.

From the student’s perspective, the situation is equally constrained.

Their days are packed with back-to-back classes. This leaves them with little to no time for independent exploration or delving deeper into subjects that truly interest them.

Personalized learning, however, holds the key to transforming this scenario

If your goal is to see tangible improvements in learning outcomes and track progress at an individual level. Then, we would suggest you to consider implementing Tab Lab for personalized learning in schools. Tab Lab set up in schools can empower students to focus on areas that resonate with their interests and aspirations.  With personalized learning, students can spend time on individual learning, delve into topics at their own pace, and readily seek guidance from teachers to clarify their doubts.

Why do you need to set up a Tab Lab for personalized learning in schools?

While enabling each student with access to digital learning on a personalized device is a step in the right direction, setting up a dedicated Tab Lab takes personalized learning to the next level. Here’s why:

Structured Learning Environment

A Tab Lab provides a dedicated space for focused digital learning, minimizing distractions and fostering a conducive learning atmosphere for all students in the schools.

Equitable Access

Not all students may have access to personal devices at home. Therefore, one of your core reasons for establishing a Tab Lab for personalized learning in schools should be to ensure equitable access to technology.  A Tab Lab set up bridges the digital divide, ensuring that every student has equal opportunities to engage with digital learning resources, explore the content of their interest, and develop essential 21st-century skills.

Digital content and LMS

To truly achieve learning outcomes in your education program, simply providing access to hardware is not enough. To boost usage and enhance engagement, it’s essential to equip each device with digital content and LMS. When implementing this in a TabLab, ensure compatibility between hardware and software. Additionally, choose content that is aligned with the curriculum, caters to all grades from K-12, and is available in the preferred language of the students, ensuring they learn in a language they are comfortable with.

Ongoing reporting

Consider setting up a Tab Lab for personalized learning in schools if you want to monitor each student’s learning interest and outcomes at a detailed level. This data-driven approach allows for timely interventions, personalized support, and ultimately, improved student outcomes.

In essence,  if your educational program aims to cater to a large student population while upholding the principles of personalized learning, Tab Lab presents a compelling solution. By addressing the challenges of device access and providing a Learning Management System with Reporting, Tab Labs empowers stakeholders to monitor ongoing usage and make data-driven decisions to achieve desired learning outcomes.

Example of How Schools Are Utilizing Tab Lab for Personalized Learning

Tab Lab Time Table

One common approach adopted by most schools where we have implemented Tab Lab is the Tab Lab Timetable. In some schools, the timetable is created by the principal, while in others, teachers take the lead. What was truly heartwarming, however, was seeing students themselves creating their own TabLab schedules on chart paper. Through this, they ensured their class gets at least 45 minutes to access the tablets and learn through them. Through our interactions with teachers, we learned that students happily come to the TabLab classes and quietly sit in corners or groups to engage in learning. Flexibility to Learn

Tab Lab provides the flexibility to learn anywhere within the school’s vicinity. One of the examples of this is Tab Lab in Army Goodwill Schools of Kashmir. Here, they used the Tab Lab setup creatively when the schools were repurposed as COVID-19 centers. Teachers conducted outdoor classes on the mountainside under the shade of trees, adapting to the situation of lack of available classrooms.
