How Adaptive Learning Platform Can Positively Influence Students’ Confidence Levels?

What is an adaptive learning platform?

An adaptive learning platform is designed to tailor and customize students’ learning experiences according to their comprehension level, grade, and learning stage. This platform monitors students’ participation in learning by assessing their practice in specific topics, mastery levels attained, and the number of attempts made to reach predefined learning objectives.

What is the need for an Adaptive Learning Platform?

Imagine a student named Tara who has always struggled with mathematics. She hesitates to ask her doubts in class and lacks confidence when it comes to solving complex problems.

Lots of students, just like Tara, sometimes avoid learning complex concepts that they don’t get, lose interest in tough subjects, or just memorize just to pass exams. These problems can affect how much students learn and leave gaps in their knowledge.

Addressing the multifaceted challenges presented by this vivid problem presents the need of a structured solution that can:

  • Cater to the unique needs of each student in a classroom
  • Enable a non-judgemental learning environment
  • Eliminates comparison in student learning
  • Allow students to learn at their own pace
  • Enable a positive outlook to learn in school as well as at home
  • Promote a sense of achievement and learning improvement

  • Individualized Pace

With adaptive learning platforms such as iPrep PAL students can learn at their own pace. If a student finds a particular concept challenging, they can spend more time on it without feeling rushed. On the other hand, if they quickly comprehend a concept, they can engage in practice, test their understanding, build confidence in the chapter, and seamlessly progress to the next one. In case of any doubts, students have the flexibility to revisit and relearn concepts, practicing until they attain mastery in a specific chapter. The adaptive learning platform’s ability to facilitate learning, practice, and self-assessment at one’s own pace encourages student engagement and enhances their confidence.

  • Personalized Content Suggestions

With an understanding of diverse learning styles of each student, iPrep PAL, an adaptive learning platform, offers a variety of content sources to cater to their individual preferences. To facilitate comprehensive understanding and growth, iPrep PAL incorporates DIKSHA’s educational content, which is crafted for easy comprehension and interactivity. The integration of DIKSHA with the PAL adaptive learning platform aims to foster positive learning outcomes by offering a diverse range of content suggestions. Students can choose and learn from this varied content based on their own capabilities and understanding levels.

  • Targeted Support during learning

An Adaptive learning platform identifies specific areas where a student may be struggling and provides relevant content suggestions for learning. For instance, when using the iPrep PAL App for learning, students begin by taking a diagnostic test to assess their current level of understanding. Subsequently, the app provides foundational learning recommendations based on their responses. To progress to a new learning level and topic, students must attain mastery in foundational topics. This focused assistance helps students overcome challenges, reinforcing their belief in their ability to succeed.

  • Immediate results of learning and practice

Adaptive learning platforms are designed to provide instant feedback on assessments. For example,  students learning on iPrep PAL get to see the level of their learning on the top right corner of the device and it swings back and forth based on their answers, enabling positive reinforcement or constructive feedback. This helps students understand their strengths and areas for improvement, fostering a sense of accomplishment and motivation.

  • Autonomy and Ownership

Adaptive learning Platform encourages students to take ownership of their learning journey. The ability to make choices on what to learn, at what pace, and set their own goals empowers them, enhancing their confidence as they become active participants in their education.

  • Eliminates Comparison among students

Traditional classroom settings can sometimes lead to comparison, especially for students who struggle to keep up. Personalized adaptive learning minimizes this pressure by allowing students to learn at their own pace, have access to their own progress data, and focus on areas where they need the most help, contributing to increased confidence.

  • Continuous Progress Monitoring

Adaptive learning platforms such as iPrep PAL continuously monitor students’ progress. The platform is integrated to empower students to see their improvement over time. This further builds student’s confidence in their abilities and keeps them motivated to continue learning.

iPrep PAL is a structured Adaptive Learning platform designed to keep in mind the need for positive reinforcement among students to keep them engaged in learning. It is currently being utilized by 1.5 Lakh students of grades 11th and 12th in schools of Haryana under the e-Adhigam program by the Department of Education in Haryana.
